-

The organising committee of the Education Excellence Day (EED) Award yesterday held an introductory session for students in private schools to brief them on the terms and conditions to apply for the award.

The meeting also targeted parents of Qatari students and different private schools across Qatar, as main stakeholders and partners in the success of the award, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education said in a press statement.

The event was held in line with the vision to promote the culture of excellence and introducing the Qatari society to different categories of the EED Award, the statement noted.

The session was attended by Dr Hamda alSulaiti, executive chairperson of the EED Award; Mona Mohamed al-Kuwari, executive vice-president; as well as Hassan Abdulla al-Mohamedi, chairman of the executive committee; and Mona al-Jabr, chairperson of the Outstanding Primary Student jury committee.

Other key members of the EED Award organising committee also took part in the session, including Hissa al-Hammadi (Outstanding Secondary Student jury committee), Dr Abdul Nasser al-Ansari (Outstanding Research Project jury committee) and Hind al-Abdullah (Outstanding School jury committee).

Dr al-Sulaiti welcomed and praised the audience members who came in large numbers, stating that their presence reflected the increasing recognition of the importance of the award among students and parents alike. Dr al-Sulaiti called on private schools to seize the opportunity to encourage their respective Qatari students to apply for the award.

During the meeting, the audience was introduced to the mission, vision and objectives of the EED award. The speakers explained the assessment criteria for all categories of the award, with a special focus on the Outstanding Primary, Preparatory and Secondary Student categories, the Outstanding Research Project for secondary students and the EED Award for the Outstanding School. The prize is awarded to one government and private school.

Each winning school will receive QR100,000, a certificate of excellence and a gold medal.

This session comes within the efforts of the organising committee to introduce the EED Award and expand its scope of participation among private schools, the statement noted. The next phase will witness the competition of private schools in all categories of the award, the Outstanding Primary, Preparatory and Secondary Student categories as well as the Outstanding Research Project for secondary students and the EED Award for Outstanding School.

A number of related events and workshops are organised to familiarise students in private schools with the different award categories and raise their awareness about the requirements for the application. The organising committee of the EED Award has been receiving applications since October 1. The committee has called on all Qataris who meet the requirements to submit their nominations before the deadline of October 31.

Schools shall receive all applications from their respective students for the Outstanding Student award (primary, preparatory and secondary) and for the Outstanding Research Project award (for secondary students only). Schools can nominate themselves for the Outstanding School award.
