AZF holds meeting with ‘Strongest Man’ finalists
Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) held a technical meeting with the eight finalists who will compete in the 6th edition of Qatar’s Strongest Man 2018 (QSM 2018). The event is due to begin at 4pm tomorrow at Aspire Park.
The meeting was headed by Abdullah Aman alKhater, director of Events and Venues at AZF.
He stressed that the QSM 2018 series is recognised for its fair play and competitiveness, adding that player safety will remain a top priority. He also urged all participants to adhere to the competition’s rules and regulations and, most importantly, to enjoy themselves.
Having passed a variety of gruelling tests over the past month, tomorrow the eight finalists will go through five challenges:
Conan’s Wheel: Contestants must lift and carry a 180kg bar on a rotating platform, Sand Bag Lifting: Take sand bags off a box and place them on high stands, Giant Wheel Tyre Flipping: Flip a 120kg tyre down a 25m course, Farmer’s Walk: Lift 120kg in each arm and walk for 25m, Truck Pulling: Pull a 6-tonne truck for 25m.
In 2017, the competition saw more than 5,000 fans cheering from the stands. Abdulaziz al-Kuwari and Christopher Oketch were named the champions in the Qatari and open categories, respectively. This year’s competition will only have one overall winner to crown Qatar’s one and only strongest man.
AZF will also organise a series of accompanying community activities for all the family to enjoy at the event, including a fan zone and play area for children, as well as a variety of local food and beverage stands.
Fans and visitors will also have the opportunity to enter a raffle draw to win special prizes presented by the event sponsors, including Sports Corner (main sponsor), Ooredoo (telecommunication sponsor), De Boer (technical sponsors) and Kidzania (event partner). Free tickets will be distributed on-site at the main entrance.
