UCQ cel­e­brates Qatar Na­tional Day

Alarge crowd of nurs­ing stu­dents, staff, fac­ulty, alumni, fam­i­lies and friends gath­ered on the grounds of Univer­sity of Cal­gary in Qatar (UCQ ) to cel­e­brate Qatar Na­tional Day.

UCQ dean Dr Deb­o­rah White wel­comed the au­di­ence, ex­press­ing her grat­i­tude to His High­ness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Ha­mad al-Thani for the hon­our of serv­ing the coun­try through the de­liv­ery of nurs­ing ed­u­ca­tion to the peo­ple of Qatar.

Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Ja­bor al-Thani, chair­man, Qatar Can­cer So­ci­ety and chair­man of the board of trus­tees at UCQ, was this year’s spe­cial guest speaker. “Qatar Na­tional Day is an ex­cit­ing op­por­tu­nity for all res­i­dents to cel­e­brate our coun­try’s his­tory and tra­di­tional cul­ture. An im­por­tant part of any strong so­ci­ety is its health­care sys­tem. UCQ is con­tribut­ing to Qatar by pro­duc­ing well-ed­u­cated nurses who are lead­ers in their work­places. I am de­lighted to be here to­day to help UCQ cel­e­brate this im­por­tant day.”

The Na­tional Day cel­e­bra­tions at UCQ show­cased Qatari cul­ture through tra­di­tional food, ac­tiv­i­ties and a spe­cial tra­di­tional folk per­for­mance by lo­cal artistes.

“UCQ is very proud to host this an­nual event and wel­come so many friends and part­ners to cam­pus,” said Dr White. “Our Qatar Na­tional Day cel­e­bra­tion is one of the most im­por­tant dates on our univer­sity cal­en­dar. It’s a time for our en­tire UCQ com­mu­nity to cel­e­brate Qatar’s unique tra­di­tions and cul­ture.”

UCQ looks for­ward to host­ing fur­ther cul­tural events in the fu­ture, the univer­sity has said in a state­ment.
