Flow­ers Fes­ti­val opens at Souq Waqif

The first Flow­ers Fes­ti­val, or­gan­ised by Souq Waqif in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Min­istry of Mu­nic­i­pal­ity and En­vi­ron­ment (MME), opened on Thurs­day.

The open­ing cer­e­mony was at­tended by Nasser Rashid alNuaimi, gen­eral di­rec­tor of the Pri­vate En­gi­neer­ing Of­fice (PEO); Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser al-Thani, as­sis­tant un­der­sec­re­tary for Agri­cul­ture and Fish­eries Af­fairs at the MME; Mo­hamed al-Salem, di­rec­tor of Souq Waqif; as well as a num­ber of of­fi­cials from the PEO and the min­istry.

Al-Salem said in a press state­ment that the event has been or­gan­ised by the Souq Waqif man­age­ment un­der the su­per­vi­sion of the Pri­vate En­gi­neer­ing Of­fice. The fes­ti­val is be­ing held for the first time and aims to sup­port Qatari prod­ucts in par­tic­u­lar, dis­play­ing the pro­duce of nurs­eries and lo­cal com­pa­nies that in­clude flow­ers of all kinds. Be­sides, dif­fer­ent types of im­ported flow­ers are also on dis­play.

The fes­ti­val in­cludes shops and nurs­eries mar­ket­ing their flow­ers, seedlings and ac­ces­sories re­lated to or­na­men­tal plants, ac­cord­ing to al-Salem. He noted that the event aims to in­tro­duce the pub­lic to lo­cal com­pa­nies en­gaged in the field of floristry and gives them the op­por­tu­nity to pur­chase flow­ers of all kinds and en­joy the ex­hibits at the fes­ti­val. These are in ad­di­tion to the pro­mo­tion of Souq Waqif, where the event is be­ing held to co­in­cide with the be­gin­ning of the win­ter sea­son. The mod­er­ate weather is an op­por­tu­nity for the pub­lic to visit the place.

The 10-day fes­ti­val opens its doors to the pub­lic from 9am to 10pm, in the West Square of Souq Waqif. The of­fi­cial ex­pects the fes­ti­val to at­tract peo­ple from dif­fer­ent seg­ments and ages.
