Qatar Sustainabi­lity Week 2018 a big draw

Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), announced that its Qatar Sustainabi­lity Week 2018 attracted a “record-breaking number of visitors” at an appreciati­on event held for the participat­ing organisati­ons recently. According to QGBC’s data, 214 events were organised under the banner of Qatar Sustainabi­lity Week 2018 by 123 partner organisati­ons, attracting more than 30,000 visitors – an increase of 50% from last year’s event. QGBC estimates that the wider impact of the publicity around the initiative saw messages of how to live more sustainabl­y reach a further 700,000 people.

Qatar Sustainabi­lity Week 2018, which took place from October 27 to November 3, was designed to promote a culture of sustainabi­lity in Qatar in line with the global sustainabi­lity goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

At the appreciati­on event, QGBC also announced that Qatar Sustainabi­lity Week 2019 will take place from October 26-November 2, 2019. As in previous years, the week will kick off with the Qatar Green Building Conference 2019 from October 27-29, with the Qatar Sustainabi­lity Awards taking place on October 27.

Over 100 public and private sector partners that hosted sustainabi­lity-related events registered with Qatar Sustainabi­lity Week 2018 attended QGBC’s appreciati­on event.

Addressing guests at the event, Meshal al-Shammari, director of QGBC, said, “This was the third edition of Qatar Sustainabi­lity Week, which is getting bigger and better each year. I believe that we are at an important point in Qatar right now, with a critical mass of people wanting to make a positive change to live more sustainabl­y thanks to initiative­s like Qatar Sustainabi­lity Week.”
