Qatar Sustainability Week 2018 a big draw
Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), announced that its Qatar Sustainability Week 2018 attracted a “record-breaking number of visitors” at an appreciation event held for the participating organisations recently. According to QGBC’s data, 214 events were organised under the banner of Qatar Sustainability Week 2018 by 123 partner organisations, attracting more than 30,000 visitors – an increase of 50% from last year’s event. QGBC estimates that the wider impact of the publicity around the initiative saw messages of how to live more sustainably reach a further 700,000 people.
Qatar Sustainability Week 2018, which took place from October 27 to November 3, was designed to promote a culture of sustainability in Qatar in line with the global sustainability goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
At the appreciation event, QGBC also announced that Qatar Sustainability Week 2019 will take place from October 26-November 2, 2019. As in previous years, the week will kick off with the Qatar Green Building Conference 2019 from October 27-29, with the Qatar Sustainability Awards taking place on October 27.
Over 100 public and private sector partners that hosted sustainability-related events registered with Qatar Sustainability Week 2018 attended QGBC’s appreciation event.
Addressing guests at the event, Meshal al-Shammari, director of QGBC, said, “This was the third edition of Qatar Sustainability Week, which is getting bigger and better each year. I believe that we are at an important point in Qatar right now, with a critical mass of people wanting to make a positive change to live more sustainably thanks to initiatives like Qatar Sustainability Week.”
