ISA celebrates 100th technical seminar
The International Society of Automation (ISA) – Qatar Section celebrated its 100th technical seminar at a gala show held recently in Doha.
Present on the occasion were ISA president Brian J Curtis, ISA vicepresident (Europe, Middle East & Africa) Ugo Baggi, Qatar Chemical Company (Q-Chem) CEO Nasser Jeham al-Kuwari, Arab Engineers Federation president Ahmed al-Jolo and senior officials from Qatar Petroleum, Dolphin Energy, QChem, Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) among others.
ISA is the largest global and non-profit professional organisation responsible for setting standards for automation in various industries. The ISA Qatar Section was formed in 2001 and has conducted, since then, 100 technical seminars, 10 symposiums and two regional automation conferences on measurement and control, plant safety and protection, cyber security, industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and wireless systems in oil and gas and petrochemical industries
The annual awards were given away during the formal function where the distinguished technologist of Qatar was honoured by Curtis. The Excellence in Professional Leadership Award was bestowed on alKuwari for his exceptional leadership and outstanding contributions to industries in Qatar.
Al-Kuwari applauded the role of ISA Qatar for raising awareness of the latest technology among automation professionals in the oil and gas industry for the past 17 years and reaching the 100th seminar milestone.
The Automation Excellence in Industry Award 2018 was given to Rajeesh Maryodan and team from ABB, while the ISA Member of the Year Award 2018 was given to Naidu Singampalli of Technip.
To mark the occasion, ISA Qatar also constituted the Excellence in Endurance Service Award for Section leaders who have been involved with the organisation since its formation. These awards were given to Nilangshu Dey, ISA Qatar Section president; Shabu Varghese, treasurer; and Jamal Nakhleh, Section delegate, for their contribution in leading the Qatar Section for the past 17 years.
The conference was attended by more than 150 automation engineers and managers from Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas, Qatar Fertiliser Company (Qafco), Qapco, Qatar Steel, Qatalum, Q-Chem, Dolphin Energy, Oryx GTL, Mesaieed Power, Ashghal, Kahramaa, automation global vendors (Siemens, ABB , Honeywell, Yokogawa, Hima, GE, Emerson), engineering consultants (Technip, Ramboll, Energoproject, Qatar Kentz) and service providers (Black Cat, Dopet, Qcon, Petroserv, CGC, Imco, Necon).
