Vodafone Qatar completes fibre rollout at ‘Msheireb Downtown Doha’
Vodafone Qatar has announced the completion of the rollout of fibre connectivity, capable of handling speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second, across Qatar’s landmark development, Msheireb Downtown Doha, following an agreement signed between both entities in December 2017.
The deployment, at an investment value in excess of QR100mn, was completed in September this year, as per an agreement entered in 2014 making Vodafone Qatar the primary provider of mobile services infrastructure in Msheireb Downtown Doha.
The new fibre roll-out will enable the provision of ‘triple play’ services that combine voice, high speed Internet and multimedia over IP, and which provides access to high definition TV, premium content, video on demand and home entertainment.
For businesses, Vodafone Qatar’s mobile and fixed technology will also enable the provision of services including smart solutions and new applications such as smart security, asset tracking and smart metering. These technologies of the future will help the large number of organisations operating in Msheireb Downtown Doha to optimise, automate and innovate.
During a tour of Msheireb Downtown Doha to see the project’s latest developments, Sheikh Hamad Abdulla Jassim al-Thani, CEO, Vodafone Qatar, said: “We’re proud of our important partnership with Msheireb Properties. Msheireb Downtown Doha, developed to revive the old commercial centre of Doha, upon completion will be the world’s largest certified sustainable and smart downtown community, featuring; 100 mixed-use buildings, 800 residential units, more than 300 retail units and 17 commercial buildings, in addition to four hotels, a school, three mosques, Msheireb Museums, the Galleria Mall and many other buildings.
