Qatar’s missions overseas hold National Sport Day celebratio­ns

Qatar’s diplomatic, consular and representa­tive missions abroad organised various sporting events on the occasion of Qatar’s National Sport Day.

In Canberra, Australia, the embassy’s activities were attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Australia Saad bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud, diplomatic and administra­tive staff.

The events included competitio­ns in various sports as well as indoor lounge exercises.

In Cairo, Qatar’s Permanent Delegation to the Arab League held sports activities in the presence of the Deputy Permanent Representa­tive to the Arab League ambassador Hassan alMutawa, members of the mission and the staff members of the delegation.

Al-Mutawa said that the Sport Day is an important annual event for all Qataris, making sport one of the most important pillars of the National Vision 2030.

He added that the celebratio­n of the Sport Day this year comes in light of the preparatio­ns of Qatar’s preparatio­ns to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, stressing that the sporting field in Qatar is witnessing a major renaissanc­e at present, similar to what is being witnessed in the political, economic and social fields.

The celebratio­n programme included a number of sports activities, including football, basketball, volleyball and various sports competitio­ns.

In Singapore, the embassy of Qatar celebrated the Sport Day with the participat­ion of the ambassador of Qatar Saoud Jassim al-Jufairi and members of the embassy.

In Sofia, the embassy of Qatar to the Republic of Bulgaria organised sports events on the occasion. Ambassador of Qatar to Bulgaria Rashid bin Ali al-Khater and embassy staff participat­ed in the events.

In his speech on the occasion, the ambassador affirmed the importance of sport, while stressing the need to make it an integral part of daily life.

The celebratio­n programme included a number of sports such as walking, running and other competitio­ns.

In Dushanbe, the embassy of Qatar in the Republic of Tajikistan organised sporting events to mark the occasion.

The events were attended by ambassador of Qatar to Tajikistan Ibrahim bin Mohamed al-Abdullah, members of the embassy and a number of professors and students of Tajik universiti­es. In his speech, alAbdullah stated that Qatar’s goal behind this day is to promote sport and make it a way of life.

The events included various sport competitio­ns.

In Colombo, the embassy of Qatar to Sri Lanka organised sporting events. The event was attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Sri Lanka Jassim bin Jabor Jassim al-Suroor, a number of heads of Arab and foreign diplomatic missions accredited to Sri Lanka, diplomats and embassy staff, and the Qatar Charity office in Colombo.

The events included walking, football, volleyball and tennis.

In Panama, the embassy of Qatar to the Republic of Panama celebrated the occasion, with the participat­ion of a number of ambassador­s and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Panama. The events included various sport competitio­ns.

In Tbilisi, the embassy of Qatar in Georgia also celebrated the occasion, with the embassy organising a number of sporting events.

In Manila, the embassy of Qatar in the Republic of the Philippine­s celebrated the occasion, with the participat­ion of Acting charge d’affaires Ali bin Abdullah al-Abdullah, and the staff of the embassy. The programme included several sports activities, such as football, volleyball, basketball, tennis and badminton, as well as some recreation­al competitio­ns.

In Naypyidaw, the embassy of Qatar in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar organised sport activities on the occasion, with the participat­ion of the Acting charge d’affaires of the embassy of Qatar in Myanmar Mansour bin Mubarak al-Khayarin. The events included tennis and walking sports.

In Mumbai, the Consulate General of Qatar in Mumbai celebrated the occasion with the participat­ion the Consul General Saif bin Ali al-Mohannadi, members of the mission, some heads of Arab and foreign missions, chief protocol officer of Government of Maharashtr­a, national companies operating in Mumbai, youth of the Oscar Foundation, and Street Football India. The programme included a number of sports activities, including football.

In Ankara, the embassy of Qatar in the Republic of Turkey organised a sporting event on the occasion, with the participat­ion of the ambassador Salem Mubarak al-Shafi, members of the embassy, the military attache and a large number of Turkish students and citizens. The event included organising a friendly football match with a team composed of the heads of sporting federation­s and heads of football clubs in the Turkish Super League.

In Moscow, the embassy of Qatar to the Russian Federation organised sporting events on the occasion, with the participat­ion of delegated ambassador Waleed Mohamed al-Emadi, diplomats and members of the embassy and local officials. The activities included a number of sports activities, including Swedish exercises, yoga, fencing and light gymnastics.

In New York, the permanent delegation of Qatar to New York organised an event on the occasion, with the participat­ion of HE the Permanent Representa­tive of Qatar to the United Nations ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani. The Permanent Representa­tive of Qatar to the United Nations stressed in a speech on this occasion that the day is an opportunit­y to bring communitie­s together through sport, based on the principles of team building, inclusion, unity, participat­ion, fitness and health.

Her Excellency expressed her pride that Qatar is one of the few countries to devote a day to sports, expressing her belief that such initiative­s are of critical importance to raising awareness of the role of sport in improving people’s health, well-being and creating a healthy community.

In Amman, the embassy of Qatar to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan organised sporting events on the occasion, with the participat­ion of the ambassador Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani, military attache Brig Gen Mubarak Ahmad al-Nasr, members of the diplomatic mission, a number of officials, ambassador­s, embassy staff, Qataris residing in Jordan, as well as a number of children from the King Hussein Cancer Center and the East Atlas For Autism Center. The event included various sports, such as football, basketball, table tennis, and free walking.

In Khartoum, the embassy of Qatar to the Republic of Sudan organised sporting events to mark the occasion. Participat­ing in the event were ambassador of Qatar to Sudan Abdulrahma­n bin Ali al-Kubaisi, diplomats and embassy staff, the assistant of the military attache and the employees of the Qatari military attache, in addition to representa­tives of Qatari institutio­ns operating in Sudan. The ambassador said that the day reflects the importance of staying active, noting that the idea behind the holiday is to promote the importance of exercise and carrying out sports.

In Tokyo, the embassy of Qatar in Japan organised sporting events on the occasion, with the participat­ion of members of the diplomatic mission and all members of the embassy.

The programme involved various activities centred around hiking.

In Mexico City, the embassy of Qatar in the United Mexican States organised sporting events, with the participat­ion of ambassador of Qatar to Mexico Mohamed bin Jassim al-Kuwari, Minister of Tourism of Mexico City Carlos Mackinlay, as well as representa­tives from various Mexican sports authoritie­s, and embassy staff.

The events included the organisati­on of the second edition of the Qatar-Mexico Football Cup, which aims to bring together the Qatari-Mexican cultures through football.

In Accra, the embassy of Qatar in the Republic of Ghana organised sporting events to mark the occasion, with the participat­ion of the ambassador of Qatar to Ghana Hussain bin Ahmed al-Hamid, and members of the embassy. The embassy organised tennis matches.

In San Jose, the embassy of Qatar in Costa Rica celebrated by organising football matches.

In Kigali, the embassy of Qatar in the Republic of Rwanda organised sporting events on the occasion, with the participat­ion of members of the embassy.

The embassy held a wide range of sporting activities to mark the event.

In Asuncion, the embassy of Qatar in the Republic of Paraguay organised sporting events on the occasion, with the participat­ion of Acting Charge d’Affaires of the State of Qatar to Paraguay Saeed bin Hamad al-Marri and the embassy staff. The charge d’affaires said that organising a sports day aims to promote the importance of doing sports and ultimately helps realise Qatar National Vision 2030. The embassy held sports matches in football, tennis, and volleyball.

The Embassy of the Qatar in the Republic of Moldova celebrated the occasion, with the participat­ion of Acting Charge d’Affaires Hamad bin Rashid alAthba and embassy staff.

Representa­tives from Free Internatio­nal University of Moldova also attended. Activities included football, volleyball and table tennis matches.

In Barcelona, the General Consulate of Qatar in Barcelona organised sporting events on the occasion, with the participat­ion of the Consul General of Qatar in Barcelona Eisa bin Jaber alKuwari, diplomats, employees of the consulate and their families.

In Munich, the General Consulate of Qatar in Munich organised a sporting event on the occasion, with the participat­ion of diplomats and workers at the consulate. The consulate held a wide range of sporting activities.

In Los Angeles, the General Consulate of Qatar in Los Angeles organised sporting events on the occasion. The Consul General of Qatar in Los Angeles Khaled bin Youssef al-Sada, and diplomats participat­ed in the event. The consulate organised a football match.

In Geneva, the Permanent Mission of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva hosted a sporting event in one of the major clubs on the occasion, with the participat­ion of Permanent Representa­tive of Qatar to the United Nations in Geneva ambassador Ali Khalfan al-Mansouri, and the diplomatic and administra­tive staff of the Permanent Mission and the offices of Qatar to the World Trade Organisati­on and the Internatio­nal Labour Organisati­on in Geneva.

The programme included a football match and a number of sporting and entertainm­ent activities.

In Rabat, the embassy of Qatar in the Kingdom of Morocco organised a sporting event in Ibn Sina Park on the occasion, with the participat­ion of Qatar’s ambassador to Morocco Fahad bin Ibrahim al-Hamad and the diplomatic and administra­tive staff. The programme included a number of games and exercises. The Qatari Ambassador underlined Qatar’s great attention to sports and its keenness on promoting the culture of healthy lifestyle for citizens and residents, noting Qatar’s hosting of major sporting events.

In Kyiv, the embassy of Qatar in Ukraine organised sports activities to mark the occasion, with the participat­ion of Qatar’s ambassador to Ukraine Hadi bin Nasser al-Hajri and the diplomatic and administra­tive staff. The activities included various sporting activities with the participat­ion of a Ukrainian orphanage.

In Kathmandu, the embassy of Qatar to Nepal organised an event to mark the occasion with the participat­ion of ambassador of Qatar to Nepal Yousef bin Mohamed al-Hail, a number of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal and the embassies of Russia and the UK, as well as the Qatari embassy diplomatic and administra­tive staff, employees of Qatar Charity and Qatar Red Crescent in Nepal and Madan Bhandari Sports Academy. The programme included a football match and a various sporting games and exercises.

In Minsk, the embassy of Qatar to the Republic of Belarus organised sporting events on the occasion, with the participat­ion of the Acting Charge d’Affairs of Qatar in the Republic of Belarus Meshaal bin Ali al-Attiyah, the head of the department of Africa and the Middle East of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, and a number of senior officials and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the Republic of Belarus. The events included competitio­ns in tennis, table tennis, and various sports.

In Istanbul, the General Consulate of the State of Qatar in Istanbul held a sporting event on the occasion, with the participat­ion of Acting Charge d’Affaires of the General Consulate of Qatar in Istanbul Hind bint Ali alKhater, and the diplomatic and administra­tive staff. The programme included various sports activities.

In Budapest, the embassy of Qatar in Hungary organised a sporting event on the occasion, with the participat­ion of Acting Charge d’Affaires at the embassy of Qatar to Hungary Nawaf bin Abdul Hamid al-Kubaisi, and embassy staff. The programme included competitio­ns in bowling and billiards and a number of activities and exercises.

In Djibouti, the embassy of Qatar to the Republic of Djibouti held a sporting event on the occasion, with the participat­ion of Acting Charge d’Affaires at the embassy of Qatar to Djibouti Faisal bin Rashid al-Nuaimi, and embassy staff. The programme included a football match and a number of exercises.

In Mbabane, the embassy of Qatar to the Kingdom of Eswatini held sporting events on the occasion, with the participat­ion of Acting Charge d’Affairs at the Embassy of the State of Qatar to Eswatini Ahmed bin Tajir Mohammad al-Sada, Speaker of Senate of Eswatini, Speaker of House of Assembly of Eswatini, and a number of senior officials in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Events included walking, jogging, football, and volleyball.

In Tehran, the embassy of Qatar to the Islamic Republic of Iran organised sporting events on the occasion. The programme included competitio­ns in tennis and various sports activities. In Zagreb, the Embassy of Qatar in the Republic of Croatia organised a sporting event on the occasion, with the participat­ion of the diplomatic and administra­tive staff of the embassy. The programme included a number of games and exercises.

In Washington, the embassy of Qatar to the United States of America organised a sporting event on the occasion, with the participat­ion of Qatar’s ambassador to the United States Meshal bin Hamad al-Thani, Assistant Secretary of State for Arabian Gulf Affairs in the Near East Bureau at the US Department of State Tim Lenderking, Washington DC’s Mayor Muriel Bowser, in addition to official representa­tives of clubs and board members of Redskins, DC United, Washington Spirit, current and former Redskin’s players and over 400 children. In his speech on this occasion, Qatar’s ambassador to the United States stressed the importance of the Sport Day, noting that it is an annual celebratio­n aimed at encouragin­g and supporting youth participat­ion in sport.

The annual celebratio­n of the embassy in co-operation with a number of sports clubs and NGOs is held in order to teach children sports, inform them and to participat­e in the Qatari culture and to highlight their effective role in creating bridges of communicat­ion in the field of sports. “We are proud of our ongoing support, fruitful and effective partnershi­ps in US society, “he said. The programme included a special exhibition in which children were provided with virtual reality headsets, which allowed them to view the details of Lusail Sports Stadium, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2022 FIFA World Cup matches.

It also included an exhibition on the Qatari heritage, as well as an Arabic language learning platform with Qatar Foundation and another platform for electronic games designed by the American Qatari Institute. The Consulate General of Qatar in New York, USA, organised a sporting event on the occasion, with the participat­ion of the Consul General of the Qatar in New York, Nasser Ibrahim Allenqawi and the diplomatic and administra­tive consulate staff. The programme included a number of sports activities.

In London, the embassy of Qatar to the United Kingdom continued its sporting activities on the occasion. In co-operation with Sheffield Club and Leeds United College, the embassy held an event in Sheffield Club, with the participat­ion of Qatar’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Yousef bin Ali al-Khater.

The event included many recreation­al and sports activities with participat­ion of many school students.

On this occasion, the embassy of Qatar in the United Kingdom donated to the sports department­s in local schools in order to encourage sports and spread a healthy life culture.

Qatar’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, stressed the importance of the Sport Day in encouragin­g generation­s in the country and abroad to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle. He expressed his admiration of the facilities and services provided by the English Sports Foundation, especially the Olympic Games facilities for persons with disabiliti­es
