MME: Pre­serv­ing bio­di­ver­sity helps fight epi­demics

The Min­istry of Mu­nic­i­pal­ity and En­vi­ron­ment af­firmed that the bi­o­log­i­cal di­ver­sity that the world cel­e­brates on May 22 every year is one of the im­por­tant oc­ca­sions that aims to ed­u­cate the public on the im­por­tance of their role in pre­serv­ing the na­ture of bi­o­log­i­cal di­ver­sity, and pro­tect­ing it from hu­man en­croach­ment.

The min­istry stated that these goals can be achieved through fol­low­ing the best sound prac­tices in food, health and eco­log­i­cal sys­tems, which also rep­re­sent so­lu­tions for sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment, in ad­di­tion to pre­serv­ing nat­u­ral re­sources for fu­ture gen­er­a­tions, not­ing that the pro­tec­tion of bi­o­log­i­cal di­ver­sity re­flects on the health of peo­ple.

This came in the min­istry’s state­ment as Qatar joins the world mark­ing the In­ter­na­tional Day for Bi­o­log­i­cal Di­ver­sity, un­der the theme “Our So­lu­tions In Na­ture”. The min­istry added: “Mark­ing this day comes on the back­drop of the Covid-19 pan­demic spread in all coun­tries of the world.
