WHO praises Pakistan for Covid success
World acknowledges Pakistan’s struggles to overcome Covid-19, Senate told
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has lauded Pakistan for effectively overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Covid-19 respiratory disease is caused by the coronavirus.
Addressing a function in Islamabad in connection with World Patients Safety Day, WHO Country Representative Dr Palitha Mahipala said that Pakistan is one of seven countries in the world to overcome the pandemic.
He said opening educational institutes is a difficult decision but medical staff, the WHO and the ministry of health are working together to train teachers for creating awareness about the disease.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs of Pakistan Ali Mohamed Khan meanwhile said that due to the prudent policies of the government, Pakistan has curtailed spread of Covid-19.
Replying to a query during Question Hour at the Senate, he said the world has acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts to overcome the pandemic.
He lauded the services rendered by doctors and paramedics during the fight against the coronavirus.
The minister said that the government is taking all efforts to maintain the standard of laboratories.
To another question, Khan said that 140mn people were assisted financially through the Ehsaas emergency cash programme.
Responding to a question, Minister for Communication Murad Saeed said that two service areas have been constructed on Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway.
He said that the Tandlianwaala service area is functional, while the Muridwala service area will be made functional this month.
