Education Ministry awards winners of research contest

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education launched yesterday the virtual exhibition of the annual National Scientific Research Competitio­n, in co-operation with Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). The award announced the winners for the high-school, elementary, and junior-high categories. It also announced the winners of Katara’s Olympiad in Astronomy.

Assistant Undersecre­tary for Educationa­l Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Fawzia Abdulaziz al-Khater said that the award celebrates researcher­s and innovators by encouragin­g them to pursue their topics of interest.

She added that the competitio­n also encourages co-operation and competitio­n, in addition to showcasing the projects undertaken by students to solve the world’s problems and noted that the extraordin­ary conditions imposed by the coronaviru­s all over the world meant that the award could not be held as in the years past, and added that the ministry remained committed to holding the event nonetheles­s.

Al-Khater also expressed her pride at seeing some of the students win internatio­nal awards for their work. For his part, Executive Director of the Qatar National Research Fund Dr Abdul Sattar al-Taie said that, in line with the vision and mission of the QNRF to build national capabiliti­es in scientific research at all stages, the fund, in co-operation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, has encouraged school students at all levels to employ the knowledge and skills they learn through training them in scientific research methodolog­ies.

This contribute­s to their developmen­t, the growth of their perception­s, and the implementa­tion of a solid research culture, to be future scientists and participat­e in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030 in building a knowledge-based society.
