QU holds conference on ‘Chemicals & Materials for Emerging Technologies’
Qatar University (QU) hosted an e-conference on ‘Chemicals & Materials for Emerging Technologies’ (CheMET), organised by a collaborative effort between the editorial boards of Emergent Materials (EMMA), a journal published by the Center for Advanced Materials in QU, and Chemistry Africa – A Journal of the Tunisian Chemical Society (CHAF).
EMMA and CHAF are two sister journals published by Springer as part of its Middle-East and North Africa (Mena) programme. These journals complement each other well in terms of scope and topics covered.
The idea for organising this joint seminar was born following an initial visit of the CHAF executive editor-in-chief Prof. Mohamed Mehdi Chehimi, to QU in January 2019 and discussions with Prof. Mariam al-Maadeed, QU vice-president for Research and Postgraduate Studies, who launched the EMMA journal in 2018.
QU organised the online seminar in close collaboration with the Tunisian Chemical Society to promote both journals and shed light on the latest research topics. The main purpose was to bring together academicians, industrialists, researchers and students into a common platform where they can exchange their ideas and interact with peers, towards the development of synthesis techniques of materials and developments of Smart Materials for Emerging Technologies.
Though nanotechnology took decades in its establishment, smart nanotechnology is an emerging area with a wider scope. Highly renowned scientists presented their findings during the keynote speeches and the various sessions of the e-conference. Best poster prize awardees will be invited to publish papers in EMMA and CHAF; the papers will have a footnote referring to CheMET 2020.
The e-conference pledged to encourage and provide the perfect platform for generating opportunities towards future collaboration among its participating members coming from cross-disciplinary work areas.
The conference included speakers from several countries such as: Qatar, Malaysia, Portugal, Morocco, Spain, India, the US, Italy, China and Russia.
Webinar organiser, Dr Kishor from QU, Center of Advanced Materials (CAM) hoped the event was much beneficial for the young researchers across the globe.
