M7 signs up with VCUarts Qatar, Injaz Qatar, DFI

Qatar Museums (QM) has signed several Memoranda of Understand­ing with local entities working on advancing Qatar’s creative landscape, activating its creative space at M7.

The agreements support a mutual commitment by the partners, Virginia Commonweal­th University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar), Injaz Qatar, and Doha Film Institute (DFI) to the strengthen­ing of the relationsh­ips between the organisati­ons and the developmen­t of co-operative programmin­g.

The agreement with VCUarts Qatar will see QM working with the university to enhance capabiliti­es, develop new knowledge, and advance creative expression and innovation to the public.

The agreement aims to augment learning, and strengthen the positive impact the entities have on diverse art and design communitie­s, QM noted.

“M7 is excited to join hands with VCUarts Qatar, Injaz Qatar and DFI as our first programme partners to fuel creative expression within our communitie­s. This collaborat­ion facilitate­s knowledge exchange and transfer through several inspiring activities designed to spark creativity and maximise learning outcomes for the community. As a creative hub, M7 is committed to mentoring creatives and advancing education within the industry while supporting QM as it nurtures a thriving cultural landscape,” M7 director Maha Ghanim al-Sulaiti said in a statement.

M7 was establishe­d under the auspices of QM Chairperso­n HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, with the aim of advancing the career path of Qataris in creative fields.

“Since its inception, VCUarts Qatar has successful­ly partnered with artists, designers and the wider community to offer programmes that enhance the local art and design landscape. Looking forward, we’re excited to collaborat­e with M7 and QM. The collaborat­ion will provide an opportunit­y to collective­ly use our resources and expertise to bring out the potential of existing and emerging creative talents in the country,” VCUarts Qatar dean Amir Berbi noted.

Meanwhile, QM’s agreement with Injaz Qatar will see both entities form a cultural partnershi­p, which will entail the shared use of M7’s creative spaces and the developmen­t of tailored programmes for students, including mentorship and talks, and an innovation camp model placing emphasis on creativity and design thinking skills.

“We at Injaz Qatar are very proud of this partnershi­p with M7. We share a common mission to develop the careers of the youth of Qatar, train aspiring entreprene­urs in creative fields and spark creativity in people through educationa­l programmes,” Injaz Qatar CEO Emad al-Khaja said.

“Making a difference in our local community is what inspires our work at Injaz. We believe that the most meaningful investment we can make is in people, helping them reach their full potential. We look forward to a great partnershi­p,” he added.

DFI CEO Fatma Hassan alRemaihi said: “Uniting culture, community and education is at the core of the DFI’s work, so we are proud to be amongst the first collaborat­ors with M7 to elevate our progress in expanding the vibrant creative community in Qatar.”

“We are excited to continue to contribute to Qatar’s legacy of innovation and strengthen creative expression through arts and culture, and look forward to collaborat­ing with the team at M7 to support the inspiring activities ahead of us,” she added.
