The dependent personality is one of the characters affected by nervous disturbance, one cannot stay alone for a long time, and if this happens, symptoms of nervous discomfort begin to appear, which may reach the point of panic. Then the one depends on those around him/her more than necessary to obtain a feeling of safety, comfort and emotional support.

What are the causes of dependent personality disorder?

As is the case in many behavioural disorders, genetic factors are among the greatest risk factors for developing this disorder, as well as the educational background and how parents deal individual in ones childhood. Permanent neglect by parents and not giving any emotional support is enough to increase the risk of developing this disease.

Dependent personality traits: Dependent personality is focused on the inability to remain alone for a long time and the urgent desire to obtain emotional support from others, so the most prominent features of dependent personality are the following:

1. Submission to others to the point that his behaviour sometimes makes you feel stupid.

2. Constant reliance on family and friends to make decisions or the drive to do some things.

3. The constant need for reassurance and being told that everything is fine.

4. Inability to retire and unwillingness to be alone.

5. Constant fear of rejection.

6. Constant fear of abandoning friends and those close to him. 7. Having symptoms of nervous discomfort when you have to be alone for a while.

Symptoms of personality dependence:

1. Accepts insults.

2. Constant desire for emotional support.

3. Constant anxiety about being alone.

4. Fear of criticism.

How to deal with the dependent personality:

1. Try to encourage them to go to a specialist psychiatrist and not give in to the psychological disorder they are going through.

2. Maintain emotional support throughout the course of treatment and make sure to tell them that treatment does not mean abandoning them.

3. It is very important that you communicate with a psychiatrist so that you can deal with them and set limits that enable you to coexist peacefully without bearing much psychological pressure.

Now that you know the traits of the dependent personality, are you or anyone around you with this personality? If yes, it’s time to deal with it!
