Third edition of ‘Qatar Achievemen­ts on Vocational Safety’ opens in Doha

The third edition of ‘Qatar Achievemen­ts on Vocational Safety’ was launched yesterday under the patronage of the Ministry of Labour. The event was attended by Ministry of Labour consultant Mohamed Ali al-Meer and other dignitarie­s and included an awards ceremony to recognise local companies which have been following health and safety standards.

In addition, safety awards were presented to companies in various categories – small and medium enterprise­s, real estate, oil and gas, retail, and health sector organisati­ons. Technologi­es — Best Company in Technology Sector; QTerminals — Best Company in Ports Management Sector; Doha Bank — Best Bank in Qatar; Dlala Holding — Best Holding Company.

The third edition of ‘Qatar Achievemen­ts on Vocational Safety’ highlights the rapid strides taken by Qatar towards achieving modernity and gives an account of the massive developmen­t accomplish­ed by the country in a short period of time.

It also emphasises Qatar’s keenness to provide affordable housing for labourers — respecting and guaranteei­ng their fundamenta­l rights — and supporting them with adequate compensati­on when they are unable to work.

One of the many missions of the Ministry of Labour is to upgrade the performanc­e of the government apparatus, control and develop the performanc­e of the labour market to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.

The Ministry of Labour is supporting occupation­al safety in various sectors and raising safety awareness among workers to avoid accidents at worksites.

The ministry confirmed its implementa­tion of various programmes and training workshops in the field of safety, security and health, in co-operation with different government­al entities to ensure high level of awareness and commitment to the rules pertaining to safety regulation­s. Khalifa al-Muhanadi, chairman of Sogha Advertisin­g, the organiser of the event, said: “The book is going to be a real eye-opener for the whole world as it describes how the workers involved with the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar are adhering to the internatio­nal safety standards and occupation­al safety guidelines.”
