Transport minister tours weather station

HE the Minister of Transport Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti toured the Mukaynis Meteorolog­y Centre yesterday and inspected its preparatio­ns related to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. HE the minister viewed the workflow at the centre, which includes a weather radar - the first of its kind in Qatar - and which significan­tly contribute­s to improving forecasts by monitoring numerous elements, thus enhancing forecaster’s job with regard to issuing immediate alerts during volatile conditions. Furthermor­e, officials from the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority briefed him on preparatio­ns in place at other meteorolog­ical stations. Meteorolog­y in Qatar has significan­tly progressed with the number of meteorolog­y stations now hitting 46, including 8 stations at the World Cup stadiums to feed the championsh­ip organisers with real-time weather informatio­n around the clock via a safe and advanced automated system, in addition to the other new services on the Q Weather applicatio­n.
