British newspaper praises atmosphere of public freedoms in Qatar

-

The British newspaper The Independent has praised the atmosphere of public freedoms in Qatar, where laws guarantee individual and collective liberties, especially freedom of religion and belief, and stressed that Qatar is considered among the most moderate Arab and Islamic countries in its laws and customs.

In a report on the manifestations of Islam in Qatar, coinciding with the imminent launch of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the newspaper highlighted Qatar’s openness to the arts, women’s rights, and civil laws, pointing out that Qatar has been supportive of, and guaranteeing, women’s freedoms for a long time, ensuring their participation in various sectors of life.

The report added that Qatar provides a comfortable environment for tourists, deriving most of its legislation from Islamic Sharia while also being keen to observe civil laws.

The report indicated that the climate of tolerance that characterises Qatari society is considered a “model” in the region, with tourists generally observing the general rules in the country, including dressing modestly, except for some places such as swimming pools and beaches, out of respect for local customs and traditions.

The Independent highlighted the harmony and tolerance that is part of Qatar’s national identity, which is seen in how Qataris and residents co-exist in an atmosphere of moderation and acceptance.

The newspaper said that the Qatar authorities allow the practice and rituals of other religions, which is an example of the tolerance and moderation of Qatari society.

The Independent advised British and foreign tourists travelling to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to respect the laws, customs and traditions of Qatar.
