Environment minister inaugurates sustainability initiative at COP27
HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali al-Thani inaugurated yesterday the environmental sustainability programme, developed by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change under the slogan “Sustainable Environment” in Qatar’s pavilion within the activities of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27), held at Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by a large number of specialists and delegations participating in the conference.
The inauguration ceremony included a high-level panel of discussion, where HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change participated along with his counterparts and ranking officials of the participating delegations.
In his speech during the ceremony, HE Sheikh Dr Faleh said indicated that the inauguration of the environmental sustainability programme is a milestone in Qatar’s journey towards achieving environmental sustainability, and contributes to supporting Qatar’s National Environment and Climate Change Strategy and the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. In a related context, HE Sheikh Dr Faleh met with Jordanian Minister of Environment Dr Muawieh Khalid Radaideh and his accompanying delegation in Qatar’s pavilion at COP27.
The Jordanian delegation was keen to tour the Qatari pavilion and see the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stadiums’ maquettes. The Jordanian delegation praised the distinctive architecture of the stadiums and the keenness of Qatar to build them by international environmental standards and specifications.
The environmental sustainability program represents an initiative launched by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to encourage the inclusion of various efforts and initiatives related to aspects of environmental sustainability in Qatar within a digital platform specifically prepared for that purpose, which would highlight the achievements made by Qatar and the scale of its commitment to support international efforts related to climate and environmental sustainability.
