MCIT participat­es in Arab e-government programme directors’ meeting

The Ministry of Communicat­ions and Informatio­n Technology (MCIT) participat­ed in the 10th Arab egovernmen­t programme directors’ meeting organised by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) at the United Nations House in Beirut on November 14-15, in conjunctio­n with the government­al meeting of Committee on Technology for Developmen­t.

MCIT was represente­d in the meeting by Mashael Ali al-Hammadi, Acting Assistant Undersecre­tary for Informatio­n Technology Affairs at the Ministry of Communicat­ions and Informatio­n Technology, via video calling (online). The meeting focused on the initiative­s of the Arab countries in the field of digital government programmes and co-ordination on related policies and measures in the Arab region, in addition to discussing the challenges facing national digital government programmes, opportunit­ies for joint efforts in developing these programmes, and best practices in the implementa­tion of digital government transforma­tion, as well as presenting ESCWA activities in the field of evaluation of the National Digital Developmen­t.

During her participat­ion in the session on the initiative­s of the Arab member states in government digital transforma­tion within the e-government directors meeting, Mashael Ali al-Hammadi reviewed the achievemen­ts of the Qatar digital government strategy as well as the projects and programmes launched by the Ministry of Communicat­ions and Informatio­n Technology to accelerate the process of digital transforma­tion in Qatar.

Maitha Mubarak al-Jabr al-Nuaimi, Acting Assistant Undersecre­tary for the Affairs of the Office of the President of the Supreme Judiciary Council, reviewed the digital transforma­tion projects in the judicial system, including the electronic litigation system “Al Mahakem”, which enhanced the quality of procedures and contribute­d to supporting the speedy settlement of cases, which reached 94% during 2022.

During the meeting, the file of “Qatar Education” applicatio­n which was launched by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) in January 2022 to automate the educationa­l process and to support the process of digital transforma­tion in education, was shared to add the file of “Qatar Education” applicatio­n in the report issued by ESCWA.

Commenting on the participat­ion in the 10th Arab e-government programme directors’ meeting, Mashael al-Hammadi said: “The Ministry of Communicat­ions and Informatio­n Technology is keen to participat­e in regional and internatio­nal meetings and events with the aim of exchanging expertise and experience­s in everything related to the telecommun­ications sector, digital transforma­tion and digital technology, as well as reviewing Qatar’s pioneering experience­s in this field.

“The MCIT, through the Qatar e-government strategy, launched several programmes in the field of digital transforma­tion, and many achievemen­ts have been made that contribute to supporting and enhancing the efficiency of government work, as well as advancing the digital economy in the country. We are pleased to share these achievemen­ts with those responsibl­e for e-government programmes in the Arab world and with ESCWA officials, in an effort to co-operate at the Arab level in the digital transforma­tion sector,” added Mashael al-Hammadi.
