Smooth transportation gave fans enjoyable experience: al-Zarraa

-

Mobility Operations Director at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) Eng Thani al-Zarraa has attributed the smooth mobility and use of transport means by football fans visiting Qatar for the FIFA World Cup to the great cooperation between the SC and its partners to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for fans during the tournament.

Al-Zarraa told QNA that the tournament has seen many records at all levels, and is witnessing a large spectator attendance in all its matches.

He said fans use all means of transport in an easy and accessible way, pointing that no jams or stampedes have been reported thanks to the readiness of the transport authorities in the country.

The transport infrastructure in Qatar has seen a great development over the past years, to ensure the efficiency of mobility during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, he explained.

Al-Zarraa revealed that more than 3,000 buses are working to move fans and visitors from their places of residence to stadiums and event venues during the World Cup.

He pointed out that the SC cooperated with its partners to find integrated transportation solutions during the World Cup, including the Doha metro network, highways, electric buses, and the light tram network connected to the metro, in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to reduce dependence on traditional fuel and use sustainable energy sources.

Co-operation with partners, including the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Qatar Rail Company (Qatar Rail), and the Ministry of Transport has facilitated transportation to and from stadiums, fans’ residences, and attractions in the country, he asserted. World Cup 2022 fans rely mainly on buses, the Doha Metro, the light tram network and taxis to get around Qatar during tournament days.

The metro lines form the main artery of the transport systems during the championships, as five of the eight World Cup stadiums are directly connected to the metro stations, while the rest are connected to a range of transport services, including metro stations and shuttle buses.
