Dugong dies after getting caught in fishing net
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s Al Khor Marine Unit under the Marine Protection Department received a report on a dead dugong through the Operations Department and immediately took measures to retrieve the carcass. Later, it turned out that the animal was stuck in a fishing net and died. The ministry has told fishermen to immediately free animals as soon as they spot them in their fishing nets in case the animals are in good health and to report the issue to the Operations Department on 184. The ministry also pointed out that the wildlife in the country is protected according to Law No 19 for 2004 on the Conservation of Wildlife and their Natural Habitats.
