QRCS gives relief items, deploys mobile clinics in Northern Syria

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has responded immediatel­y to the recent wave of mass displaceme­nt in the northern governorat­es of Syria.

QRCS’s field teams distribute­d food and non-food items to the internally displace persons (IDPs). The distributi­on of aid has benefited more than 23,800 IDPs, and work is still in progress.

At the same time, mobile medical clinics were deployed by QRCS’s medical profession­als to IDP destinatio­ns, to provide access to primary healthcare and medication­s free-of-charge, and refer critical cases to specialise­d hospitals.

In terms of psychologi­cal health, Psychologi­cal First Aid (PFA) and socio-psychologi­cal

support was provided to children, and psychiatri­c cases were referred to specialise­d centers.

Community-health teams responded by testing malnutriti­on among children ranging

0.5-5 years of age, as well as malnutriti­on among pregnant women and nursing mothers. It also distribute­d preventive nutritiona­l materials, and held health risk awareness sessions.
