New centre to improve patients’ experience

-

Dr Yousef al Maslamani, medical director at Hamad General Hospital, said: “This is a really important first milestone on our journey to transforming trauma and emergency care in Qatar.

“We are excited to be able to welcome our first patients and while there is still some way to go before the facility is fully operational, walk-in patients will be able to experience the new centre at first hand and we are very confident this is going to improve the experience our patients have.”

In addition to the See and Treat services available on the ground floor, a further three floors are planned for the new Trauma and Emergency Center.

Until the whole building is operational, patients needing immediate clinical intervention, and patients arriving by ambulance, will be transferred and treated in the former Emergency Department until the rest of the new facility opens later this year.

The centre will link to Hamad General Hospital’s new operating theatre facility and the Trauma Intensive Care Unit at Hamad General Hospital for the rapid transfer of patients.

The start of the ‘see and treat services’ at the new centre comes after the opening of five new hospitals over the last three years -- the largest expansion in HMC’s history.

These include the four new Medical City hospitals -- the Communicable Disease Center, Women’s Wellness and Research Center, Qatar Rehabilitation Institute, and the Ambulatory Care Center as well as Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, HMC’s newest hospital located in the Industrial Area.

The new Trauma and Emergency Center is part of the main Hamad General Hospital campus and can be accessed from Gate 5 on Al Rayan Road, which is located across the road from Lulu Hypermarket. Road entry to the new facility remains the same as to the former Emergency Department.
