The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Widam Food Company, will continue to encourage local production of sheep and subsidise sheep meat prices during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

THE Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has received 4,100 heads of sheep during the first half of Ramadan as part of the national joint initiative to encourage local production.

The MME, in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Widam Food Company, will continue to encourage local production of sheep and subsidise sheep meat prices during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The initiative aims to encourage local production of sheep through traditional farms. The objective aims to build a strategic stock of sheep to ensure food security in red meat.

The initiative encourages Qatari farmers and individuals to establish production units for the desired varieties of sheep.

The period of supply of sheep from breeders extends for a period of five months until Eid Al Adha, so that it can be distributed to citizens as per their eligibility.

This initiative a practical solution to meet the increasing demand for meat. It will also enhance the production of meat and help achieve self-sufficiency. The initiative, which targets many smallscale sheep breeders in the state, offers guarantees to the breeders to sell their sheep at reasonable prices.

The MME is working to provide incentives to breeders to enhance local production. Direct supervision is carried out by the Veterinary Center.
