QATAR Red Crescent’s Patient Benefit Fund has stepped up its charitable activities, with the delivery of two libraries that serve patients with disabilities in the state’s therapeutic institutions.

The two libraries, both physical and electronic, serve several sections of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).

The physical library consists of 700 printed books, which will be distributed to seven treatment and specialised centers. The e-library will include 10 tablets for patients enrolled in the day care program in Muaither.

Senior Consultant in the Community Medicine Department at HMC Dr. Mohammed Siddiqi said these libraries will add educational rehabilitation programs to patients and enhance cooperation with the Qatari Red Crescent to provide exceptional service.

This comes as part of cooperation between the two sides, which in turn contributes to the integration of services provided by different medical and social care institutions in Qatar and present them as an integrated package to benefit patients, Dr. Siddiqi added.

Head of Local Development at QRCS Mona Fadhel Al Sulaiti said the libraries provide educational materials in various fields for the benefit of resident patients, adding it also aims to entertain patients and help them make use of information and knowledge available on the Internet.

Qatari Red Crescent has set up six e-libraries at state healthcare institutions with 42 computers distributed to several medical centers and departments, including the Children’s Emergency Center, Fahad Bin Jassim Kidney Center and mental health services.

This initiative is part of the psychosocial support extended to patients, which helps in improving their mental state and response to treatment.
