Qatar’s push for scientific research pays off in US
The excellent performance by Qatari students at a recent international science fair in the US attests to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s continuous support for scientific research, a highranking official of the ministry has said.
Fawzia Abdulaziz al Khater, the assistant undersecretary for educational affairs at the ministry, said it has been promoting scientific research among students by encouraging them to participate in research and by organising regional research competitions and exhibitions.
Students from schools in Qatar have produced stellar results at the Intel International Science and Engineering (Intel ISEF) competition held in Arizona.
Held annually in the US, the Intel ISEF is a global competition in the fields of scientific and social research. It includes competitions in 19 fields, such as engineering, medicine, energy, transportation, computers, environmental sciences, botany, zoology and sociology.
Khater congratulated the schools and students for their outstanding scientific achievements and praised their determination to honour the name of Qatar at an international stage.
She also praised the participation of Qatar’s students in similar events held in Kuwait, Turkey, Malaysia and other parts of the US.
Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at Qatar University Dr Mariam al Maadeed also congratulated the students who did their schools and the country proud. She also highlighted the roles Qatar University and its Al-Bairaq Programme play in developing scientific temper among students in the country. Al Bairaq Programme team leader Dr Noora Jabor al Thani has also praised the students.
