Plans afoot to raise ratio of Qataris in private sector jobs

THE Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs (MADLSA) has stepped up efforts to increase Qatarisation of jobs in the private sector. At present, Qataris hold 60 percent of the jobs in the private sector.
This was revealed during a workshop organised by MADLSA on e-registration process for jobs.
There is also a plan to fix a minimum wage for private sector employees to encourage Qataris to join the sector.
The plan, which is currently under study, is part of efforts of encourage Qatarisation of jobs.
Abdul Aziz Hassan, Director of the National Human Resources Department at MADLSA, said the main objective of the ministry is to raise the proportion of Qataris in public and private sector jobs.
He said there are some positions which are occupied by experienced non-Qataris. “We support the provision of making Qatari cadres suitable for the jobs by gaining experience from non-Qataris. We have attracted non-Qatari employees to provide that experience to citizens,” he added.
For his part, Abdul Aziz al Yami, head of the department of registration of job seekers at the ministry, praised the cooperation and coordination between different ministries. “All of them work to provide suitable jobs to every citizen looking for a job,” he said.
“We are now working on the process of Qatarisation of jobs in cooperation with the private sector. We will complete Qatarisation in the government sector soon.”
For his part, Eng Amr al Khamisi said, “We have a system in place for the jobseekers to post their applications. Prospective employers can review their applications and select candidates. In case, they don’t accept the application, they must explain their reasons for rejections.”
Hassan said the new things that were introduced to the electronic system were the development of a brief description of the functions and the quality of the job so that the jobseeker knew the nature of the job prior to his/her selection.
“The employers gave us the mechanism of selection. All employers are required to maintain the confidentiality of information about candidates and job seekers,” he said, adding that a new electronic recruitment programme will be launched next year.
Hassan said, “In the field of teaching, there is reluctance from citizens to take up that job as some prefer office jobs. Some are also reluctant to take up field jobs such as inspectors and observers.”
