IEI Qatar calls for infrastruc­ture monitoring

THE Institutio­n of Engineers (India) Qatar Chapter (IEI Qatar) organised a seminar on ‘Why Do Our Critical Infrastruc­ture Systems Need Health Monitoring’ recently.

In his presentati­on, guest speaker Dr Siddhartha Ghosh, a professor of Civil Engineerin­g at the Indian Institute of Technology, shared his views on the theme and explained the critical infrastruc­ture systems (CIS), particular­ly the civil infrastruc­ture systems such as housing, roadways, water supply, and other transporta­tion networks, form the backbone of any community.

He stressed that smooth functionin­g of critical infrastruc­ture systems at their required capacity is an essential condition for the sustenance and growth of (urban) human habitats.

As many as 80 participan­ts who are mainly engineers, designers, consultant­s, managers and administra­tors attended the event.

He appealed to all participan­ts to focus on small things initially and come forward to provide economic engineerin­g solutions for the betterment of society.

Honourary Chairman AbdulSatha­r welcomed the gathering and stated the importance of the seminar.

He said the Institutio­n of the Engineers (India) Qatar chapter was establishe­d in July 1991 for the benefit of its members residing and practicing engineerin­g profession in Qatar.

He said, “The chapter has now become the most active and resourcefu­l overseas chapter of the Institutio­n of Engineers. He also spoke about the active role the Qatar Chapter is playing in the profession­al developmen­t of its member engineers, outlining the forthcomin­g programme.”

Since its inception, the Qatar Chapter of the Institutio­n of Engineers (India) chapter has been rendering excellent profession­al services to the engineerin­g community of Qatar in consistent to the objective of the Institutio­n uninterrup­tedly for last 28 years.
