Cup wins for Noor al Hawa, Alignement, Al Lusail
AL Naif Racing’s Molheb Al Naif stayed true to his favourite tag when he galloped home to a fantastic victory in the Losail Cup for Purebred Arabians at the Al Rayyan Park on Thursday.
The Gassim Mohammad Ghazali trained horse was pretty well rested after a win in April and the 7-year-old did not need much prodding when Harry Bentley unleashed him on the home straight in the six furlong sprint.
Molheb Al Naif finished three lengths and three quarters ahead of Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik’s Almuheet for the win, while the latter edged out Al Thumama Racing’s Qassy by half a length for the runner up spot.
Khalifa Bin Sheail al Kuwari’s Alignement started his new season like he finished the last one, with a victory.
In the Wathnan Cup Thoroughbreds (Class 2), Gassim Mohammad Ghazali’s ward, ridden by Harry Bentley, settled behind early leader Shabbab before making the move coming on to the home straight in the 2000m run.
The gelding picked up pace and eventually went past the post two and a half lengths ahead of Tom Marquandridden Noor Al Hawa, even as Ivan Rossi helmed Quelindo rounded up the top three under Ivan Rossi.
Al Jeryan Stud’s Al Lusail picked up right where he had left off last season as the Hadi Nasser Rashid al Ramzani schooled colt registered his fourth straight victory when he won the Al Wukair Cup for Local Thorughbreds.
With Carlos Henrique in the 5-year-old’s saddle for the first time, Al Lusail beat the competition by two lengths and a quarter at the post as the owner and the trainer celebrated their fourth victory on the night.
Luca Maniezzi helmed Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim al Malki’s Shaman Bu Thaila to a runner up finish ahead of Khalifa Bin Sheail al Kuwari’s Mosayer, ridden by Harry Bentley.
Last season was the first winless one for Al Jeryan Stud’s Djelamer in Qatar. Hadi Nasser Rashid al Ramzani’s ward set the record straight for the new season opening his campaign with a thrilling win in the the Purebred Arabian Handicap (90 & above) under Carlos Henrique.
The win was second on the day for the Al Ramzani-Henrique duo and third for the Al Jeryan Stud colours.
A steady move up on the outside in the final 300m saw Al Jeryan stud’s AJS Al Maha notch her second straight win.
Hadi Nasser Rashid al Ramzani’s ward had stayed in the second half of the pack in the Purebred Arabian Handicap (90 & below) before moving wide coming on to the final straight under Alexander Reznikov.
As the seven furlong run drew to a close, the 6yo took a slight advantage and held on for a fine victory with half a length to spare.
On ratings, Saif Ali Owaida al Hajri’s Akmar did not disappoint in the Purebred Arabian Claiming Race (60-90).
