Filipino community groups take part in clean up campaign

Bayanihan Qatar was formed in June 2017 to extend a helping hand through outreach initiative­s

MEMBERS of Bayanihan Qatar, a federation of more than 20 Filipino community groups mainly from the grassroots sector, took part in a community clean-up drive held along Filipino Sou on Friday.

The initiative is the fourth edition of its kind spearheade­d by The Filipino Community (TFC), one of the most active members and supporters of the advocacies of Bayanihan Qatar. The umbrella organisati­on, Bayanihan Qatar, was formed in une 2017 to extend a helping hand to the community through outreach initiative­s. It was formally launched in August 2018.

Armed with thrash bags and other cleaning tools, the participan­ts gathered at the venue around 3pm and begun the cleaning operations which had earned praises from passers-by mainly those non-Filipinos. The Filipino Sou is one of the most populated areas in the capital particular­ly during the weekends.

Commenting on the occasion, Bayanihan Qatar resident erry Ronuillo said, We are proud of this programme of TFC that promotes cleanlines­s and caring for the environmen­t while at the same time demonstrat­es our utmost respect to the host country. In this simple gesture, we hope to be able to give back to the generosity of the Qatari government and to this country that many of us consider as our second home. I hope other organisati­ons will replicate this kind of activity in other parts of Qatar.

The participat­ing organisati­ons included Grupo Filipino, Buklod, Kabisig, Doha Dabarkadz, GBI Expats Chapter, Qatar- ilipino Helping Hand, FI, GRII, IKTK, OBQ, Kapuso, GGBAI, FFQ, AGWI, among others.
