Expedite and finish all infra projects, says PM

Citizens’ subdivisio­ns developmen­t projects a top priority for the government: PM More than 65% of Mesaimeer Interchang­e developmen­t project is now complete, says Ashghal chief

PRIME Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani has paid a field visit to Mesaimeer Interchang­e Upgrade project and Citizens’ Subdivisio­ns Developmen­t projects in south of Doha.

The PM was briefed on the progress of work in both the projects.

The PM stressed that the citizens’ subdivisio­ns are the top priority for the government under the directives of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani.

The PM urged speedy completion of infrastruc­ture projects, especially projects related to the developmen­t of citizens’ subdivisio­ns.

The PM expressed happiness about the participat­ion of Qatari engineers in the implementa­tion of all projects under Ashghal, and stressed the role of Qatari youth in nation building.

For his part, Public Works Authority (Ashghal) President Dr Eng Saad bin Ahmed al Muhannadi clarified that the Ashghal strives to complete the works of Mesaimeer Interchang­e developmen­t project as per directions from the Prime Minister.

He said more than 65 percent of the project are complete including developmen­t of Mesaimeer Interchang­e and parts of roads connected to the interchang­e such as Rawdat Al Khail Street, Industrial Area Road, E Ring Road and Doha

Expressway, comprising a total of 6.1 km roadworks.

The Ashghal president further recalled that the first tunnel at Mesaimeer Interchang­e was opened to traffic in October 2019, six months ahead of schedule, and other parts will be opened soon.

The project is scheduled to be completed by next year.

He pointed out that Ashghal is committed to its integrated plan to serve the citizens’ subdivisio­ns as a top priority.

He said works are going on in several vital areas such as Al Wukair South, Al Ebb, Leabaib, Al Kharaitiya­t, West Muaither and some other areas to provide services to more than 16,500 residentia­l subdivisio­ns.

Ashghal is also working on tendering similar projects to serve 12 areas in the state covering 16,900 subdivisio­ns.

Manager of Highway Projects Department at Ashghal Eng Bader Darwish said the Mesaimeer Interchang­e directly connects with Al Thumama Stadium and facilitate­s ease of access to the Al Janoub Stadium.

He clarified that works are progressin­g to complete the interchang­e before the much-awaited World Cup matches begin.

The new interchang­e, after completion in 2020, would significan­tly improve traffic and save more than 70 percent of travel time.

O his part, Manager of Road rojects Department at Ashghal Eng Saud al Tamimi said Ashghal is taking over the developmen­t of new and existing citizens’ residentia­l subdivisio­ns as a top priority. Works are under way for tender of projects to serve 12 areas in the state covering 16,900 subdivisio­ns, including Al Wajbah East, Duhail, Umm ekhba, Rawdat al ahhaniya, Semaisma and eryan ajima among others, he added.

The new three-level interchang­e is the first of its kind in Qatar and includes nine tunnels to provide free ow traffic. The 6.1-km long interchang­e consists of three to four lanes in each direction to accommodat­e about 20,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.

Ashghal is also set to launch similar projects to serve 12 regions in the state to serve more than 16,900 subdivisio­ns in these areas and the projects are in the stage of tendering and awarding.
