Ooredoo announces winner of CodeCamp Hackathon contest

Winner receives QR25,000 prize award

-

OOREDOO has announced the winner of the Ministry of Transport and Communications’ (MoTC) CodeCamp Hackathon for Smart Cities.

The CodeCamp, tied to the recent QITCOM event, was Qatar’s branch of a global initiative. The ministry, as part of its Entrepreneurship Zone initiative, brought together teams of designers, business analysts, software developers and topclass start-ups to compete to develop smart solutions that can solve real-life Smart City challenges in Qatar.

Aligned with QITCOM’s theme of ‘Safe Smart Cities’, 12 teams were tasked with developing a smart Internet of Things (IoT)-based Smart Cities solution to transform industry verticals and people’s daily lives. The solution had to be built on the Ooredoo IoT Build platform and ideally integrated with Bosch XDR devices.

The CodeCamp Hackathon ran for 48 hours from October 24 to 26 with the final product delivered to Ooredoo.

Bare Metal was chosen as the Ooredoo winner of the QR25,000 prize for their smart air conditioning control device and app.

All 12 participating teams have been offered a chance to join Ooredoo’s Digital & Beyond LSP - Lean Start-up Programme - in partnership with Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC) to further develop and validate their solutions and possibly win a chance to be incubated under the Digital & Beyond programme.

Yousuf Abdulla al Kubaisi, chief operating officer at Ooredoo, said: “Ooredoo joining forces with the Ministry of Transport and Communications on the CodeCamp Hackathon provided the opportunity for brilliant young talents in Qatar to create Smart City innovations, in line with our aim of enhancing digital lives. QITCOM offered the ideal platform for developers to come together to leverage technology innovations to support Qatar National Vision 2030 and the TASMU Smart Programme, and for them to have the chance to take their solutions to market in Qatar and even worldwide.”
