Zero Gravity FC defeat Batch 2010 to lift MESF football tourney trophy

ZERO Gravity FC emerged as the undisputed champions of the first-ever football tournament organised by MES Alumni Associatio­n (MESAA) recently.

The ‘FFC Presents MESF Football Tournament 2019’ was powered by Mission 20 Events. The final match between Zero Gravity FC and Batch of 2010 was tied at 1-1 at the end of the second quarter, with a goal each. However, Zero Gravity FC clinched the cup in the penalty shootouts with six goals against the five goals scored by Batch of 2010. The second runners-up of the tournament, Manara FC, beat MES Faculty FC again through penalty shootouts scoring four goals against three after being tied at 1-1.

The final game was followed by a grand closing ceremony where the teams were presented with participat­ion certificat­es. The top three teams were presented with medals by the tournament sponsors and the MESAA Management Committee.

Individual awards were presented to Naji Muhammed Shareef of Zero Gravity FC (Most Valuable Player); Noel Biju Cherian of Zero Gravity FC and Nawaf Zubair of

Manara FC (Golden Boot); and Fahad Abdulkaree­m of Manara FC (Golden Glove).

The prize cheque of QR 5,000 was presented to Zero Gravity FC by AK Usman, founder member and treasurer of the MES Indian School Management Committee. The prize cheque of QR2,500 was presented to the 1st runner up by Ahamed Isham, director, Sports and Games of the MES Indian School Management Committee. The tournament rolling trophy was presented to Zero Gravity FC by PP Anwar, Family Food Centre and Ziad Usman, president of MESAA.

The tournament consisted of 12 teams of ex-students of MES Indian School and faculty that played for six weeks every Friday at the MES Indian School Ground.

Throughout the period the support from the MES Indian School Alumni community was unpreceden­ted with over 1500 footfalls recorded for the matches. The tournament has also led to the formation of new teams.

The title sponsor of the tournament was Family Food Centre.

The gold sponsors were Aster Medical Centre, Recharge Qatar, Safa Water, Bawarchi Restaurant, Saieco Perfume and Children’s Education Centre. The silver sponsors were Hyperthink Systems WLL, BNI, M20Zero, One Stop for Office Supplies, SB & Partners, MP Traders, Black Olive Restaurant, Savoy Insurance Brokers, Bodyzone Fitness Centre, Al Muftah Rent A Car, Safari Hypermarke­t, Kairali Al Tanoor Restaurant and Speedline Printing Press. The printing, media and radio partners for the event were Digital Print Centre, QPlays and Radio Olive and Radio Suno respective­ly.
