A high-profile delegation from Senegal visited Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) on Monday to build humanitarian partnership for the benefit of local communities.

The Senegalese delegation comprised Mme Oulimata Diop, general manager of the Higher Authority of Waqf, Dr Ahmed al Amin Acting Legal Unit and Partnerships Officer at the Higher Authority of Waqf, and two counsellors from the Embassy of Senegal in Doha.

They were received by Ali bin Hassan al Hammadi, secretary-general of QRCS, Dr Mohamed Salah Ibrahim, executive director of Relief and International Development Division,

and Dr Fawzi Oussedik, head of International Relations and International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

Hammadi welcomed the guests at QRCS and commended the strong relations between the governments and National Societies of Qatar and Senegal.

Hammadi said, “As an asset for society, there have been developed rules and regulations for Waqf. It is a significant resource for Islamic banking.”

He highlighted the mutual understanding with the Senegalese Red Cross Society, as a strategic partner of QRCS.

Among the projects that can be worked on together are water wells, education and rural women’s empowerment.

Diop thanked QRCS officials for their hospitality.

In 2015, she explained, the Government of Senegal initiated a restructure of the Waqf system. To that end, the Higher Authority of Waqf was established in 2018 as an autonomous body affiliated to the prime minister.

She stressed the importance of Waqf as a means of strengthening solidarity among nations. “The purpose of the visit was to explore opportunities of collaboration with donors. Qatar has a leading role in Waqf and charitable activities. We seek to build cooperation with all partners, particularly QRCS,” she said.
