Qatar’s Thawab al Subaie & team finish 5th in 3x3 ice hockey
Lausanne 2020: Winter Youth Olympic Games
QATARI Thawab al Subaie finished in fifth place in the 3x3 ice hockey competition of the on-going Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games on Tuesday.
His participation was Qatar’s first at the Winter Youth Olympics. Al Subaie came close to qualifying for the next round, but only the first four spots could go ahead. Al Subaie joined a team of different nationalities and participated with in several matches.
A novel competition format is being used for the men’s and women’s 3-on-3 events at the Games.
Every team has 13 players, all from a different National Olympic Committee (NOC). Each team is identified by its uniform colour.
In the men’s event, the final was to match Green with Red late on Wednesday after two entertaining semifinals. Green defeated Black 7-3, with Red winning 9-7 against Brown.
The lead changed several times before Red pulled ahead in the final period. The Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympics Games competitions have witnessed the participation of 1,800 athletes representing 76 National Olympic Committees.
The Games continue till January 22.
