Sixth round of Longines Hathab at Al Shaqab from today

THE sixth round of Longines Hathab Equestrian Tour of the third edition (2019-2020) of the annual domestic equestrian championsh­ip will be held at the Al Shaqab Arena on Friday and Saturday.

The twelve-leg national series is jointly conducted by Qatar Equestrian Federation and Modern pentathlon & Al Shaqab.

The mandatory veterinary check of all participat­ing horses was conducted on Thursday.

The 6th round will kick off with the Small Tour at 2pm on Friday with the Table A, two Phases class and will be followed by the Medium Tour for individual­s and teams (Table A, One round against the clock with jump-off) at 5.30pm.

On Saturday, the dressage events (Elementary Level 1 & Prelim Level 2) will begin from 9am. Later in the afternoon, the Open Class (Ride & Drive) event will be held from 2pm, leading to the Big Tour (Table A, One round against the clock with jump-off) from 5.30pm.

Exciting contests have been seen in the previous five rounds and the competitio­n among the riders is growing intense adding to the excitement.

Khalid Mohammed al Emadi (120 pts) currently leads the Big Tour, followed by Mohammed Sultan al Suwaidi (118), and Salmeen Sultan al Suwaidi (95) points.

The Medium Tour is led by Hussain Saeed Haidan (127pts). He is trailed by Mohammed Hazim Abara (1210, and by Jaber Rashid al Amri (114).

The Small Tour is being topped by Mohammed Nasser al Qadi (121pts), and is followed by Ali Mohammed al Qadi (116), and Khalifa Abdulla al Khaldi (109). The fourth palce is occupied by Faris Saad al Qahtani, also on 109 points.

The QR 1.5mn national series Longines Hathab – Qatar Equestrian Tour is aimed at improving the standard of horse riding among Qatari youth, while encouragin­g the involvemen­t of private stables and individual horse owners to spread awareness of horsemansh­ip as part of Qatar’s history and tradition.

A clear benchmark for Qatar has been set through this series – a points system has been implemente­d with defined participan­ts, for each class of competitio­n.

Hathab’s significan­ce is demonstrat­ed by the results of the competitio­n being used as a guide in the selection of riders to represent Qatar in internatio­nal competitio­ns.

The competitio­n series is open to Qataris and residents of Qatar. The riding discipline­s include showjumpin­g and dressage, and comprise five competitio­n categories. The Future Riders categories include ages 6 and above.
