QA to provide 5 mn masks to virus-hit China: Envoy
QATAR Airways (QA) will donate five million masks and one million sterilizers to China, which has been hit by a new coronavirus epidemic, Chinese Ambassador to Qatar HE Zhou Jian has said.
The “generous donation” by Qatar Airways, Zhou said, was in addition to one million masks the government of Qatar pledged to virus hit-China.
The ambassador was addressing the media on Wednesday to provide details of the telephonic conservation between the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“Qatar has repeatedly expressed its support for China, and opened the Qatari airline network to facilitate China’s transportation of anti-epidemic materials,” Zhou said.
He said Chinese people were “deeply moved by the true friendship that has stood the test in difficult times”.
“Since the outbreak of the epidemic, China has mobilised the whole country to deal with it, adopted the most thorough and rigorous prevention and control measures and waged a people’s war on the epidemic,” the envoy quoted President Xi as saying.
He said President Xi expressed Beijing’s willingness to maintain close coordination with Qatar, provide updates on the latest situation of the epidemic in a timely manner, ensure the life and health of the Qatari nationals in China so as to safeguard the health and safety of the people of both countries in a concrete manner.
