QA to pro­vide 5 mn masks to virus-hit China: En­voy

QATAR Air­ways (QA) will do­nate five mil­lion masks and one mil­lion ster­il­iz­ers to China, which has been hit by a new coro­n­avirus epi­demic, Chi­nese Am­bas­sador to Qatar HE Zhou Jian has said.

The “gen­er­ous do­na­tion” by Qatar Air­ways, Zhou said, was in ad­di­tion to one mil­lion masks the gov­ern­ment of Qatar pledged to virus hit-China.

The am­bas­sador was ad­dress­ing the me­dia on Wed­nes­day to pro­vide de­tails of the tele­phonic con­ser­va­tion be­tween the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Ha­mad al Thani and Chi­nese Pres­i­dent Xi Jin­ping.

“Qatar has re­peat­edly ex­pressed its sup­port for China, and opened the Qatari air­line net­work to fa­cil­i­tate China’s trans­porta­tion of anti-epi­demic ma­te­ri­als,” Zhou said.

He said Chi­nese peo­ple were “deeply moved by the true friend­ship that has stood the test in dif­fi­cult times”.

“Since the out­break of the epi­demic, China has mo­bilised the whole coun­try to deal with it, adopted the most thor­ough and rig­or­ous pre­ven­tion and con­trol mea­sures and waged a peo­ple’s war on the epi­demic,” the en­voy quoted Pres­i­dent Xi as say­ing.

He said Pres­i­dent Xi ex­pressed Beijing’s will­ing­ness to main­tain close co­or­di­na­tion with Qatar, pro­vide up­dates on the lat­est sit­u­a­tion of the epi­demic in a timely man­ner, en­sure the life and health of the Qatari na­tion­als in China so as to safe­guard the health and safety of the peo­ple of both coun­tries in a con­crete man­ner.
