-

THE Green Tent of ‘A Flower Each Spring’ programme concluded its Ramadan activities for the current season with an e-seminar on applications, software and digital technology amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

The participants at the symposium discussed the positives of digital technology, as well as its misuse to spread rumours.

They pointed out that the Qatari community has become aware of the negatives, as Qatar has set regulations governing this issue, including the Cybercrime Prevention Law and the Data Protection Law. They also called for the development of an international legal and social pact to confront cybercrime.

The speakers said that technology has provided great services to humanity and societies, which has transformed many sectors including education, health, construction and trade.

They pointed out that while this transformation has played vital role in the development of societies in terms of communication and health research, there are many who exploit this technology to spread rumours and violate privacy, which call for international legal controls.

The participants reviewed a number of electronic educational applications and the great benefits that they offer to students in the field of e-learning, as well as the importance of software for students with disabilities.

The speakers said that despite international conventions related to people with disabilities, the rights of this group to digital access and distance education are still lacking.
