QATARI MEDICAL AID REACHES UKRAINE

In implementa­tion of the directives of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, a cargo plane loaded with urgent medical aid provided by Qatar through Qatar Fund for Developmen­t (QFFD) arrived in Ukraine on Wednesday, in support of the Ukraine government to combat the novel coronaviru­s (COVID-19) outbreak. The aid shipment was received by Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba and Qatar’s Ambassador to Ukraine HE Hadi bin Nasser al Hajri.

AMBASSADOR of Ukraine to Qatar HE Andrii Kuzmenko has expressed gratitude to the Qatar government for providing Ukraine with humanitari­an medical aid to support the country’s fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, the envoy said that following the directives of the Amir of Qatar

His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani a special flight of Qatar Airways delivered a humanitari­an medical aid from Qatar to Ukraine on Tuesday.

The cargo provided by Qatar Fund for Developmen­t (QFFD) contained around nine tonnes of coveralls, medical gowns, masks, gloves, goggles and face shields. The official said the items will be immediatel­y handed over to the Ministry of Health of

Ukraine for distributi­on between the country’s hospitals and medical institutio­ns.

“Today, as the entire world addresses the extraordin­ary global challenge of COVID-19, the State of Qatar demonstrat­es a strong commitment to a spirit of partnershi­p and mutual assistance. By providing significan­t and targeted assistance to its foreign partners, Qatar is making remarkable contributi­on to the global efforts to overcome the pandemic, reaffirmin­g its high prestige in the internatio­nal arena,” said Ambassador Kuzmenko.

According to the envoy, the humanitari­an aid is the result of agreements reached recently between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and HH the Amir of Qatar.

He said the issue was also discussed in detail between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Qatar HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahma­n al Thani during their phone conversati­on held on May 7.

“During the last couple of weeks, we worked tirelessly together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Qatar Fund for Developmen­t, Qatari Embassy in Kyiv and our Ukrainian relevant authoritie­s to make this happen,” the envoy added.

He also lauded the strong bilateral relationsh­ip between Qatar and Ukraine and further expressed his country’s willingnes­s to cooperate with Qatar in combating COVID-19.

“I would like to emphasise that Ukraine is ready to continue effective cooperatio­n with Qatar in combating COVID-19 and sharing the experience in this field. I am really happy, that especially during the recent years the Ukrainian-Qatari relations has reached new heights, thanks to the intensive political dialogue and accelerati­on of trade and economic cooperatio­n between our states. There are many important issues on our current bilateral agenda. I am confident that after overcoming the pandemic, Ukraine and Qatar will continue proactive interactio­n in their implementa­tion,” he said.
