QMMF’s 3rd online racing challenge next week
Entries open on Tuesday for WRC 8 racing championship
THE Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) has planned a third online racing treat - the WRC 8, the FIA World Rally Championship 2019 official video game which will begin next week.
According to QMMF Executive Director Amro al Hamad, the federation is pleased to mount the third virtual racing challenge on PS4, by using the COVID-19-enforced situation and having the auto and moto sports-loving community engaged.
While the actual sporting activities are slowly returning to action under certain socialdistance restrictions in some parts of the world, it would take some time before sports events begin taking place in Qatar. Due to heat, Qatar usually has a break from sports in June. Since, the travel of any kind is not fully open now, people are mostly at home and following the government guidelines to curb the spread of the coronavirus here.
“Most of the ground work has been done for the new event and it is going to be a quite exciting experience for the participants. We expect some of our regular car rally drivers in this event as well,” Hamad said while talking about the new digital game.
“We recently hosted the Qatar Online Racing Championship Auto and Moto. Both events were thrilling and drew encouraging response. This drove us to come up with the third event and we hope the new competition will be extremely pulsating,” he added.
It may be recalled that Ahmad Kholy emerged the champion in the auto eCompetition by beating Hamad al Sulaiti (100) by six points. Khalid al Kuwari was third with Sheikh Soud bin Jassim al Thani and Rashid al Lebdah following him in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
Saeed al Sulaiti then put up a dominant display and clean-swept all the races he participated in the moto event. Sheikh Soud proved he is a force to reckon with in the eSports as he finished runnerup. Khalid al Maraghi edged Kuwait’s Mohamad al Zaidan in a battle for the third spot, while Hade Patel grabbed the fifth place.
There will be three qualifying races and then three finals will determine the winners of the top five places. The number of participants in one group is less than the previous two events. Only seven drivers can be hosted in one group at a time.
