Tamuq to offer online course on 3D modelling for school students

The programme will allow students to explore the fundamentals of 3D modelling in the comfort and safety of home

CONTINUING its online STEM Home, designed to develop STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills among Qatar’s school students during COVID-19, Texas A&M University at Qatar, a Qatar Foundation partner university, will offer a new programme on 3D modelling for students completing grades 9-12 beginning June 7.

The online workshop titled ‘Creative Fusion’, to be organised and hosted by Texas A&M at Qatar, will allow high school students to explore the fundamentals of 3D modelling while learning in the comfort and safety of home.

Students in grades 9-12 will learn the basics of creating, editing and analysing their 3D designs; recognise the importance of creating 3D models in engineering and understand how 3D printing works as they create their own 3D models. The students will create a design solution to the presented challenge through a series of weekly online lessons and tasks.

Furthermore, the students will receive weekly online training sessions in English and Arabic to be provided via video conference and an online learning platform. Participants will need a computer and Internet access and are expected to commit 4-6 hours per week. Only students who complete submission of the weekly tasks will receive a certificate.

Texas A&M at Qatar Dean Dr C sar Octavio Malav said that 3D modelling was a critical component of the engineering process and encouraged all STEMminded students to commit to this summer programme to develop and enhance their school learning.

“We are living in uncertain and unprecedented times”, Malav said, “but learning goes on. As engineering and education leaders in Qatar, Texas A&M at Qatar is uniquely positioned to be able to offer our expertise to school students to help them continue to learn and grow.”

The programme is offered at no cost, except for the participants’ time. Interested students can apply for the programme at https: stem. qa stem-programs idea . The deadline for receiving applications is June 6.
