IKEA joins QC to deliver 4,000 meals to people affected by COVID-19

QATAR Charity (QC) has provided 4,000 ready-to-eat meals donated by IKEA Qatar shop to those infected with coronaviru­s (COVID-19) at quarantine centres in Umm Salal and Al Mukaynis, in collaborat­ion with the Ministry of Municipali­ty and Environmen­t.

Food distributi­on is part of Qatar Charity’s ongoing efforts to provide food and preventive supplies with the aim of contributi­ng to contain coronaviru­s spread.

“As part of the efforts made by the Ministry of Municipali­ty and Environmen­t, represente­d by the Al-Daayen Municipali­ty, to reduce coronaviru­s disease, the Awareness and Health Department provided full support and supervisio­n to initiative­s that contribute to helping those affected by the virus,” said Ahmed Matar Al Shammari, public health inspector at Al Daayen Municipali­ty. Al Shammari also praised the support of the IKEA store and Qatar Charity for their efforts to extend support to those affected by the outbreak of COVID-19.

Alexey Sitkin, IKEA Qatar’s Store manager, said: “People care is one of IKEA’s values. We strive to support the competent authoritie­s and the local community in any way possible during this difficult time. As part of its corporate social responsibi­lity, IKEA Restaurant plays a key role in this by offering over 4,000 healthy food packages for the infected and needy.”

Abdulaziz Jassim, director of Customer Service Department at Qatar Charity, said: “Qatar Charity continues to distribute meals and food baskets to families with low incomes and those affected by the coronaviru­s pandemic.”

He added that Qatar Charity, as a civil society organisati­on and as part of its contributi­on to social programs, distribute­d food baskets to needy families and workers, as well as ready-toeat meals for workers in different quarantine centers across the country. He also noted that this initiative, launched at the beginning of COVID-19, has received an overwhelmi­ng response from various institutio­ns and companies in the country.

The director of Customer Service Department appreciate­d the contributi­on of the IKEA Qatar store by providing meals and sweets, calling on other companies to follow IKEA to help affected families and provide them with food baskets.
