40 school students hone skills at summer course organised by QU-YSC

THE Qatar University’s oung Scientist Center has launched a summer course to foster creativity and scientific research skills for preparator­y and primary students through electronic platforms. This step stemmed from the Centre’s vision of encouragin­g innovation among Qatari youth, as innovation is one of the factors needed to advance the economy and transforma­tion into an economy based on knowledge, research and developmen­t.

The centre’s objective was also to invest student free time during summer vacations by providing a fun educationa­l environmen­t that inspires innovative thinking and creativity and to adopt these ideas and develop them into distinguis­hed projects that place Qatar at the forefront of research and innovation and contribute to the achievemen­t of Qatar’s vision for 2030.

This course was attended by 40 male and female students from 7 different schools. The participat­ing female students were from North Region schools such as Al-Daayen Preparator­y and Primary Girls School, AlShahaniy­a Preparator­y School for Girls and Al-Jamiliya School for Girls. As well as students from the Al-Arqam Academy for Girls and the Modern English School. While the male participat­ing students were from Al-Kaaban Primary and Preparator­y School for Boys and AlShahaniy­a Preparator­y School for Boys.

The students showed a great deal of interactio­n during the workshop, as they excelled in the day-to-day challenges and implementa­tion of the final design projects, re ecting what they learned during the course. The students were excited about the content of the course and called for an increase in the number of days of the course to enable them to acquire more skills and take part in other fun educationa­l challenges.

One of the students expressed her great admiration for the course, explaining, “The course was enjoyable and useful, and increased my interest in science.” While Khamis Al Mansoori, a parent of one of the participat­ing students, said, “The workshop had a great impact on my daughter in many ways, such as organizing time and taking advantage of holiday free time, she also practiced teamwork and made new friends.
