Qatar accords top priority to children’s rights: Naama
QATAR has reaffirmed that it attaches great importance to the promotion and protection of children’s rights, and considers it a priority in its development plan that relies primarily on investment in human capital.
Qatar asserted its keenness to provide the necessary infrastructure and a healthy environment to ensure proper development of all the children on its soil.
This came in the speech of Qatar during the annual debate on the rights of the child in the Human Rights Council, which was delivered by Third Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Talal Al Naama.
Naama said that Qatar believes that providing a safe and clean environment is a prerequisite for children to grow and enjoy their rights, pointing out that adopting an approach that addresses the dimensions of a healthy environment is extremely important to realise the enjoyment of human rights, achieving well-being, and making the planet sustainable.
Some of the models that reflect what Qatar has done and is still doing to provide a healthy environment for the child are its efforts to address the negative effects of climate change and air pollution, he added.
In this regard, he stressed that air pollutants are monitored in government schools to prevent their effects, in addition to the integration of environmental education into the school curricula and allocation of a national environment day to educate children about environmental issues and encourage their participation in addressing them.
Naama said Qatar also continues its efforts at the international level, providing developmental aid to developing countries that are affected by environmental disasters and climate change.
