Qatar Museums joins efforts with MME, Seashore Group to clean the coastlines of cultural villages

One-year programme to kick off in the ancient city of Al Zubarah

QATAR Museums has signed a cooperatio­n agreement with the Ministry of Municipali­ty and Environmen­t, represente­d by the Al Shamal Municipali­ty and the Seashore Contractin­g and Engineerin­g Group, to clean the coasts of cultural villages across the country in line with its deep belief in the value of protecting Qatar’s heritage and surroundin­g areas.

The agreement was signed by Ahmed Musa Al Namlah, CEO of Qatar Museums, Hamad uma Al Mannai, Director of Al Shamal Municipali­ty, and Salem Saeed Al Mohannadi, Chief Executive Officer of Seashore Group.

On the basis of the agreement, the three parties would collaborat­e over a one-year cycle to introduce a programme aimed at cleaning up the coastlines of cultural villages, beginning with the ancient town of Al Zubarah.

The parties to the agreement would provide assistance to volunteers and participan­ts in the project.

Experts from Qatar Museums will introduce volunteers to cultural sites and the value of coastal cleaning in addition to creating an online applicatio­n that recognizes cultural sites and offers a historical overview of the region.

Commenting on the initiative, Ahmad Musa AlNamla said: “Beaches represent an attraction for tourists, which makes such sites prone to pollution. Our cooperatio­n with the Ministry of Municipali­ty and Environmen­t and Seashore Group in line with Qatar Museums’ keenness to raise awareness of the importance of archaeolog­ical sites and villages, and the need to conserve them as a living example for future generation­s. We are therefore pleased to join efforts with various state institutio­ns, the private sector and community members to accomplish this noble mission, and to preserve our rich heritage that dates back thousands of years.”

The new agreement falls within the context of Qatar Museums’ partnershi­p with relevant state agencies, community members and volunteers to preserve Qatar’s archeologi­cal sites.

Qatar Museums connects the museums, cultural institutio­ns and heritage sites in Qatar and creates the conditions for them to thrive and flourish. It centralise­s resources and provides a comprehens­ive organisati­on for the developmen­t of museums and cultural projects, with a long-term ambition of creating a strong and sustainabl­e cultural infrastruc­ture for Qatar.

nder the patronage of His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and led by its Chairperso­n, Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar Museum is consolidat­ing Qatar’s efforts to become a vibrant centre for the arts, culture and education in the Middle East and beyond.
