MES emerges champion in inter-school Hindi Day competitio­ns

WITH an objective to stimulate students’ interest in learning the Hindi language, and as part of Hindi Day celebratio­ns, the MES Indian school conducted Chetana-2020, an inter-school online competitio­n. A total of 120 students from 14 Indian schools in Qatar took part in the competitio­n.

The competitio­n included different items and categories, including Action song (sub junior category), Poetry Recitation (junior category), Essay Writing (intermedia­te category), Story Writing (senior category) and Poem Writing (super senior category).

The panel of judges comprised Dr Vinod Chauhan Prasoon, an acclaimed poet, writer and head of Hindi Department at Delhi Public School, Greater Noida Dr K Sukumaran, former principal, niversity

College, Kariyavatt­om, niversity of Kerala Sudhakan Pillai, HSST-HG Hindi, Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Thazhava, Kollam Mrs Sajitha Punnassery, assistant professor, Department of Hindi, Nehru Arts and Science College, Coimbatore Anant K Kesari, senior manager-Sales, Marketing and Business,

S QSA Thermal, Florida Q Shield Sanjay Mahendru, shift supervisor, QG 3 4 and Mrs Padmawati Pande, teacher educator.

Felicitati­on ceremony for Chetana-2020 was conducted on the virtual platform on

Monday at 4.30pm.

Dr Prasoon, who was the chief guest at the event, in his address emphasised that teachers need to adopt modern approaches to teach and promote Hindi language.

MES Principal Hameeda Kadar, who was the guest of honour, talked about the richness of Hindi language and its wide reach in society. Rajendran S, coordinato­r of the day’s programme, announced the results of Chetana 2020. MES Indian School was declared the overall winner of the competitio­n.

Punit Pande secured the first prize in the super senior category for the Poem Writing contest. In the senior category for Story Writing contest, Ms Shakti Suresh Iyer secured the third position. In the intermedia­te Essay Writing contest, Ms Vandana Sajeev Kumar won the second prize, whereas Ms Shreya Hari secured the first prize in Action Song contest in the sub junior category. Ms Vedha Virendra Redkar won the second prize in the junior category for Recitation.

Cultural programme by the students included patriotic songs, group dance, group song and poetry recitation. Ms Ayana Sameer welcomed the gathering, while Ms Safa Shaikh proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Alisha Leanne Rodrigues and Syed Yasir compered the programme.

Rajendran S, convener of the Hindi Day celebratio­ns, in associatio­n with the teachers of the Hindi Department coordinate­d the event. School officials and teachers of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools attended the programme. Haroon from the Department of ICT along with his team provided the technical support for smooth conduct of the programme.
