Picpa Doha holds webinar on Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship

Around 60 Picpa Doha members, associates and guests participated in the webinar

THE Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants Doha LLC(G) conducted a webinar on the topic of Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship on Friday.

Around 60 Picpa Doha members, associates and guests participated in the webinar led by the organisation’s President Alvin Polido and Head of Associate Affairs Eduardo Chavarria.

The webinar opened with a discussion on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Philippine economy and highlighted the increased dependence on OFW remittances. Keynote speaker Edgardo T. Valenzuela of the Ateneo de Manila niversity shared the recent statistics citing that the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Qatar ranked as the fourth highest source of OFW remittances during the period of anuary to May of this year.

During the first part of the session, Valenzuela also discussed leadership and its difference from management. He said, “Leadership is the ability to see through challenges and find ways to overcome them.”

He also presented the core values of a leader, reinforcing the message that one does not need to have a title nor an assigned position in order to be a leader.

The second part of the session clarified the concept of social entrepreneurship, as opposed to a normal business enterprise. It aimed to empower the attendees to consider providing a positive impact to their respective communities when establishing their own businesses.

The webinar fostered engagement and interaction through the lively facilitation of Nikkolai Whitney Abella, Chairman for Sports and Karen Lucila, Auditor as the programme emcees.
