‘Nepal looking forward to achieving economic progress’

- HE Dr. Narad Nath Bharadwaj Ambassador of Nepal to Qatar

ON the joyous occasion of the National Day and Constitution Day of Nepal, I would like to extend hearty congratulations to all the Nepalis in Qatar.

Nepal has been observing September 20 as National Day and Constitution Day since 2016 to commemorate the proclamation of the Constitution of Nepal on September 20, 2015. The Constitution, promulgated by the Constituent Assembly, has embraced the values of multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious, and multi-cultural society and has enshrined all the essential features of democracy, inclusion and social justice.

The Constitution has charted new course for peace, progress and prosperity for the country. With longstanding political issues settled, the country has started looking forward to achieving economic progress and balanced development, a long-cherished aspiration of the Nepalis. The Government of Nepal has set the objective of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’. Nepal is pursuing the goals of graduating from the status of LDC at the earliest and becoming a middle- income country by 2030. The Government has geared to develop infrastructure, agriculture, tourism and human resource development to propel the engines of economic growth. Investment, both domestic and foreign, is a prerequisite for all this. The Government is committed to presenting Nepal as an attractive destination for foreign investment. Investments in agriculture, tourism, health, education and infrastructure could be mutually beneficial to Nepal and Qatar.

Qatar and Nepal have maintained cordial relation ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than four decades ago. These relations have continued to grow on various avenues in course of time. Qatar has continued to host a large number of Nepali migrant populations in recent times. They, in turn have contributed to the transformation of Qatar into a vibrant and prosperous country. We look forward to working with the State of Qatar to find common areas of cooperation and collaboration in areas mutually beneficial for both the countries.

The onset of COVID-19 has stalled many of our engagements while disrupting the course of individual lives as well as the flow of socio-economic activities. As we aspire to overcome this menace, I would like to request all members of Nepali community to strictly abide by the preventive and precautionary measures adopted to control the transmission.

Finally, I wish all the Nepalis at home and abroad for a peaceful, prosperous and progressive year ahead. I would also take this opportunity to thank the Government of Qatar for extending support and cooperation to Nepal and Nepalis.
