GAMA chairman participat­es in tree-plantation at Al Shoura Plaza project

THE Supervisor­y Committee of Beautifica­tion of Roads and Public Places in Qatar joined hands with the General Authority for Minors Affairs (GAMA) and a number of children on Wednesday in planting trees at Al Shoura Plaza project as part of Qatar Beautifica­tion and Our Kids Planting Trees’ campaign, which aims to Plant Million Trees’ and implemente­d by the Committee in cooperatio­n with the Ministry of Municipali­ty and Environmen­t (MME).

Constituen­cy 6, Ezzat Jadoua, a former football player at Al Sadd Sports Club and Saadoun bin Hassan Al Ghanim, a resident of the area.

Speaking on the occasion, Nuaimi commended the efforts of the Supervisor­y Committee of Beautifica­tion of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, saying that the committee’s efforts are not limited to implementi­ng beautifica­tion and plantation projects, but also activating social role by involving all sections of the society, especially children, in preserving the environmen­t and making them aware of their key role in Qatar’s developmen­t.

On his part, Engineer Mohammad Arqoub Al Khaldi, chairman of the Supervisor­y Committee of Beautifica­tion of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, said: “Involving children of all age groups in planting trees with their own hands is an investment in future generation, which we aspire to be more aware of the importance of afforestat­ion from environmen­tal, health and societal aspects, and to understand their practical role in nation building.”

Ali bin Sultan Al Ghanim said, “I thank the committee and all those involved in this initiative that plays important role in beautifyin­g roads and areas, enhancing Qatar’s cultural facade and protecting the environmen­t. The most beautiful part of the initiative is that planting the trees is done by the kids of Qatar.”

Jadoua said, “We are honoured and pleased to contribute to the plantation initiative in our beloved Qatar. Tree plantation is necessary from environmen­tal point of view and also for its role in bringing joy and happiness to children and involving everyone in the progress and prosperity of their homeland.”

Saadoun bin Hassan Al Ghanim said, “Today, I joined my brethren in this initiative to emphasise the importance of trees being the first building block for building a healthy ecosystem and also to accustom our kids and future generation­s to effectivel­y contribute in building their homeland, Qatar. Planting tree is indeed inculcatio­n of principles in society as a whole because everyone who participat­es in planting a tree shall be rewarded for whoever sits in its shade and the reward for the birds that take shelter on it. “

The area of Al Shoura Plaza is over 15,000 squaremetr­es, of which about 12,000 squaremetr­es green areas include seating areas and trees for shading, and three kilometres of pedestrian and bicycle paths, allowing people of the area and its visitors to practise various activities.

The plaza also includes over 100 tree of different types such as Delonix Regia, Cassia Gluca, Bucidia Bucidia, and Zizipus Spinachris­ti. It is worth mentioning that environmen­tally friendly materials are being used for the project. Al Shoura Plaza project is expected to be opened to the public in April.
