Malaysian community holds online events to mark Eid

-

IN view of the health and safety measures put in place by Qatar authorities due to the pandemic, the Malaysian community in the country has recently came together online to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr.

The Malaysian Association of Qatar (MAQ), the official organisation representing the Malaysian nationals residing in Qatar, organised the Takbir prayer with Malaysian Ambassador to Qatar HE Zamshari Shaharan, MAQ executive officials, other community leaders and embassy staff.

According to the organisers, the Malaysian community, just like other communities, used to celebrate the Eid festivals with social events such as visiting each other’s homes and gathering in restaurants and hotels with families and friends to feast on a variety of food. But since last year, they noted, they have been finding ways to engage the members while adhering to the health protocols.

In addition, this year the MAQ team entertained members with a short Eid celebration video and hosted virtual fun game quiz. The top five winners received prizes sponsored by Hyatt Plaza Mall, Holiday Villa Hotel and Residence, Mama Rozie Restaurant, Gossip Bubble Tea, Arfa Permata and two individuals from MAQ Excos. The programme lasted for about 90 minutes and was live-streamed on the Malaysian Association of Qatar (MAQ) Facebook.
